Five Favorite Pins – October

by | Favorite Pins, Linky Parties

Sorry I have been so MIA! I have been super busy with fall family fun and creating amazing resources for my classroom (and to share with you of course!).  Today I’m linking up with Mrs. Miracle’s Music Room to showcase 5 of my favorite pins!

1.  Rhythm Basketball This is one of my favorite lessons of all time!  Kids really love it and it is a great way to reach those hard to reach kids! Go check it out!

2.  Composition Apps – Good, Bad, and Ugly

This pin comes from Music with Mrs. W.  She reviewed several apps for composition and I look forward to checking them all out!

3.  Form in Pop Music

I thought this lesson on form in pop music would be a GREAT way of connecting what my big kids are listening to at home and what we work on in class.

4.  In the Hall of the Mountain King book

A friend of mine wrote this book and it does a fabulous job telling the story behind Grieg’s “In the Hall of the Mountain King.”

5.  Descriptive Word Wheel.

This is a great idea to help kids use words more than  “I like it,” and  “It was cool” when describing songs we listen to.  Plus, our school is big into extending student’s vocabulary.  What a great cross-curricular tie-in.

Enjoy these pins and go follow me on Pinterest!

I hope you have noticed how busy I have been updating materials for Pitch Hill! We are about to start Unit 2 – Melody in our district and my kids have been begging for months to take a visit to Pitch Hill!

Wrapping Things Up

My final advice? When in doubt, bake cookies! (Pillsbury makes an excellent pull apart cookie dough, I must say). A dozen cookies on someone’s desk can make them feel warm and gooey inside (pun intended). This strategy has been around since the beginning of time and is a tried and true method.

If you are new at school and looking for lessons for the first day, you might also enjoy this post on first day lesson plans!

Who did I miss? Any other key people in school we should add?

Musically,

Shelley
