Works for Me Wednesday: Lines and Spaces

Works for Me Wednesday: Lines and Spaces

Hi all! Today I am linking up Aileen Miracle for a quick “Works for me!” Go check out the lineup for some quick tips!

My tip today is short but sweet! Kindergarten began work on lines and spaces not too long ago. They are doing pretty well, but I am always looking for ways to engage my kinesthetic learners. Plus, I have Kindergarten at the end of the day; these babies NEED to move!

Nursery Rhymes – Not just for the Nursery!

Nursery Rhymes – Not just for the Nursery!

For younger students, nursery rhymes help with language development; they hear the sounds of vowels and consonants and later on, learn how these sounds combine into words. I see this in my own young children as they play and sing these songs. Nursery rhymes also teach pitch, volume, voice inflection and the rhythm of language in general. Do you sound different when you tell a sad story like “Humpty Dumpty” vs. when you tell a happy story like “Mary Had Little Lamb?” What about an angry one like “Rain, Rain, Go Away?” Or a scared one like “Little Miss Muffet?” Children learn so much about how to express emotions and feelings through these simple songs and rhymes!

January Survival Guide

GMEA Conference. (Georgia Music Educators’ Association). In the beginning of my career these conferences and other Orff/Kodaly/etc. workshops kept me going. They provided me contacts to share successes and frustrations, and gave me lessons to help me out when I was stuck planning as a beginning teacher. As I got further into my career, it always helped refresh me during the time of the year when many of us are getting the mid-year blues and already wishing it was summer!

What’s on Your Desk?

I am so excited to be linking up today with my friend, Rachel Tanenblatt for her linky party, “What’s on Your Desk?”

….ok, well no, I am scared to death to actually show you my desk. You will stop following me and call the TLC hoarders show! Yikes! I do realize it is a problem and believe it or not, I am a very organized person – I just have 30 projects going on ALL the time.

Tech Talk Tuesday – Cloud Storage

Tech Talk Tuesday – Cloud Storage

Today I want to talk about something that changed my life – professionally and personally – cloud storage. I am still SHOCKED at how many people do not use some sort of cloud storage, whether it be Dropbox, iCloud, Google Drive, Box, Amazon Cloud, etc. I use a combination and it has saved me countless hours and many tears. If you have ever left a file at school or home, or had a hard drive crash, then Dropbox will save your life. (I speak of Dropbox because this is my primary form of storage, but you could easily sub any other service of your choice).

Tech Talk Tuesday: Twitter for PLN

I am not a digital native – really about 5-10 years too old (aging myself here!). When my little brother was in college I remember him making me sign up for this weird thing called “Facebook.” Then a few years ago this other thing called “Twitter” came along. I didn’t think I would ever have a need for Twitter, but have recently started to see the light! Twitter has become a huge part of my PLN (Professional Learning Network) and my county has also embraced it. I now use it to document my PLN work on my teacher evaluation!
